Christian Brothers' College St Kilda -Academic Scholarships

Christian Brothers' College St Kilda invites applications from interested families for our scholarship program for Years 7 - 12, please see the following explanation and criteria.

Christian Brothers' College St Kilda has established a range of academic scholarships to encourage the enrolment of the best possible student to the College and to encourage students already enrolled at CBC to achieve the highest standards possible. There are two types of scholarships on offer:

  • CBC Academic Scholarship
    This scholarship is available to students not currently enrolled at CBC and will be awarded on application as part of the enrolment process.
  • Br Frank McCarthy Award
    This is a prize named after one of CBC's most celebrated Principals and is awarded annually to the dux of each year level. The prize of a notebook computer is received by the student with the highest level of achievement. If a student is a consecutive award winner, he will be awarded a new notebook computer and his previously awarded notebook computer will be presented to the second highest achieving student of that year.

Criteria for Awarding Scholarships

CBC Academic Scholarship

A scholarship student may be selected for any year level if he has demonstrated outstanding academic performance over a period of four consecutive semesters. His school reports must also show an unblemished record with regard to conduct at the school. The content and quality of expression of an applicant's statement must be of a very high standard. In an interview, the applicant must present himself well, express himself capably and demonstrate a capacity to be a high achieving student at CBC. There must be demonstrated strong support from parents for the applicant.

Selection Process

  • The family submit the application form, together with the student's most recent school report, to the Principal's Assistant.

  • Applicants may have an initial meeting with the Director of Learning & Community Relations or may be interviewed by a panel made up of the Director of Learning & Community Relations and the Principal, or his delegate.

  • Once the recommendation has been accepted, the Principal meets with the applicant and his family and proceeds with the enrolment process outlining the terms of academic scholarship.

  • Scholarship awardees are kept confidential. This information is known only to the College Principal, the Deputy Principal, the Director of Learning & Community Relations and the Business Manager.

Br Frank McCarthy Award

The criterion for this award is the Dux of Year in each year level. Student recipients must also have attained an exemplary attendance and behavioural record at the College.

Applications are not required for this award as each student is selected by the College on the basis of his academic performance.

Closing Dates

Scholarship Applications for Year 7, 2015 close on 31 March 2014.  All applications for Year 7, 2015 scholarship need to be received by the College by this date to be eligible.  The outcome of the application will be advised in early May 2014.  Scholarship applications for Year 7, 2014 have now closed.
